AUCKLAND HOME SERVICE
LUNCHEON PARTY HELD Guests of honour at a luncheon party held at the Lyceutp Club yesterday, by the Auckland branch of the Home Service Association were Miss E. M. Emerson, chief woman inspector for shops and factories in the Auckland area, who is giving up her work at the end of the month, Miss Alice Basten, a delegate to the recent Pan-Pacific Women's Conference, and Miss Gore-Martin, head of the Unemployed Women's Bureau. Mrs. J. T. F. Mitchell, president of the association, welcomed the guests, who were presented with a bouquet each* Later, brief speeches were made, Mrs. Mitchell speaking appreciatively of the help that Miss Emerson had E'ven in a variety of ways, and the tter expressing her intention of still doing what she could in the interests of the work after her retirement. Miss Basten spoko of aspects of industry and of contacts made at the Honolulu conference, and Miss Gore-Martin touched upon one or two aspects of the work of the bureau. It was pointed out by one pf the speakers that an aim of the association, that of training girls for useful vocations, was not generally realised by the public, , and if it had not been for the financial stringency more would have been done in this direction.

Cruickshank, Mrs. T. Derrick, Mrs. F. Bauer, Mrs. Martin Ross, Mrs. Traill, Mrs. Gulliver, Mrs. Cammell, Mrs. Cameron, Mrs. St. Clair Inglis, Miss Janet Wallace and Miss Betty Edwards.
