DISBANDMENT OF REFEREES
ACTION BY CONTROL BOARD
"A climax to recent dissensiort in the ranks of the Auckland Football Association -was. reached alj , last night's meeting of the control board. iThe request .of the board, last, week .to ,the Referees' Association.for an. explanation of the failure of certain referees' to accept their appointments on the previous Saturday failed to bring a 'satisfactory reply.'. The board therefore decided to-, take drastic action • and to immediately disband the Referees' Association. A sub-committee was set up to make the appointments for the remainder of the season and to form a new Referees' Association. Mr. J. H. Bocock, who was appointed as primary schools' representative in place of Mr. A. B. Chappell, recently transferred to Wellington, took hia seat on the board and was welcomed. The North Auckland Association advised that October 6, the date suggested by the board for the visit of an Auckland representative team to Whangarei, was acceptable. The personnel of the Auckland team was left in the hands of Messrs. Backhouse, Ballantyne and Sibbin. Congratulations on the success of the recent junior tour were received from the New Zealand Football Association, which also conveyed its thanks to Mr. E. L. Flyger for his generous gift of the Flyger Rose Bowl for competition by teams under 21 years of age.. ' The promised trophy to take the place of the Reason Banner, for inter-ship competition, proved to be a magnificent silver oup, and was presented by Mr. Cole, who was duly thanked. The North Shore Club intimated that it was unable to accept last week's invitation to play Hamilton Wanderers at Hamilton on Saturday next. It wbb decided, in view of the short notice, that, failing the Metro Colleate Club being able to accept the match, the Wanderers Club would be advised that the board regTettod its inability to send 'a team. The_ South Auckland Association adviped ■ that its teams would be arriving at the YiM.C.A. 'at 11 a.m. on Saturday. It also notified that seven of its senior team were under 23 years of' 6ge.
