PROBLEM DRAMA
FILM WITH A MESSAGE An unusual and powerful story is told in the drama, "Damaged Lives, which will commence a season at the National and Prince Edward Theatres to-morrow. The story, which deals with prevalent social ills, is a simple one, but is mado to live by the unaffected sincerity of the leading players. Although the names of Diane Sinclair, Lyman Williams and Charlotte Merrinm are not well known, their fine performances mark them as artist* of real talent. Marceline Day makes a welcome reappearance and is a sympathetic figure as a doctor's wife, whose understanding prevents the suicide of the young couple. The performance of Jason Robards as the kind family doctor is also worthy of mention. Diane Sinclair acts throughout with a simple charm and grace. She is called upon to perform a great deal of emotional acting, but she proves herself equal to the occasion. The ' s skilfully done and is a credit to Elgar ITlmer, who has produced several films for the Ufa studios. The picture, which is shown under the auspices of the Racial Hygiene Association of New South Wales, is distributed by Greater Australasian Films, Limited.
