DAIRYING INDUSTRY
THE MEAT DISCUSSIONS SOME COMMON INTERESTS [BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Dairy produce marketing was referred to by Mr. W. J. Poison (Government — Stratford) in a question addressed to the Prime Minister, Mr. Forbes, in the House of Representatives to-day. Mr. Poison asked the Prime Minister whdther it was the Government's intention to give the dairy industry a similar opportunity to advise the High Commissioner in connection with negotiations with the British authorities to that given to the meat industry through the visit of Mr. D. Jones to England.
Sir. Forbes said the Government recognised that the interests of the dairying industry in some measure were involved in any arrangement concerning meat which might be reached between the Governments of the United Kingdom and of the respective Dominions. In the negotiations which had taken place, the New Zealand Government had not been unmindful of those interests. ' As, however, no definite action could be taken in that connection without the concurrence of the New Zealand Government, the House might rest assured that in any arrangements that might be finally agreed upon, the Government would be only too pleased to consult the Dairy Board and to safeguard as much as possible the welfare of the dairying industry. As had already been stated, the Government some time ago arranged for the Meat Producers' Board and the Dairy Board to confer on matters of common interest arising from developments in relation to the imports of farm produce into the United Kingdom.
