FLOURMILLERS' PROBLEM
COMPETITION FOR TRADE MEETING IN CHRISTCHURCH [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday Flour-millers from all parts of New Zealand met here to-day to discuss the future of Distributors, Limited,'which will soon reach the end of its second term of six years. The meeting was in committee and no report is available. Distributors, Limited, is the selling agency for flour produced by the main mills of the Dominion, and practically all the larger mills, except those in Auckland, belong to the group. The capacity of the consuming public to absorb flour has declined in recent years and the position has been complicated by the advent of several socalled free mills, which have cut into the trade of the Distributors' mills. Recent reductions of £1 a ton were made by Distributors, Limited, the reason given that it was part of an attempt to regain trade lost to the free mills. It is stated there has been dissatisfaction for some time among some of the main mills as to the usefulness of the organisation and that many have felt they would be better off if allowed to trade with frea competition without the agency of Distributors, Limited. This was the reason for holding the meeting to-day.
