OUR SPECIAL PAGE

DEAR BOYS AND GIRLS,— Thank you for all the nice letters and sketches you sent in for our Spring Page test week. It was impossible to use more than a few of them, but others will appear later on, for spring certainly does not seem in any hurry to settle down with us thin year 1 This time last year our gardenn were very much gayer than they are to-day, and it seems a long time to wait until the full beauty of this bright season is reflected in our gardens. I would like you all to read the little note at the head of this column, and to make our vote on the uubject of a national flower a really good indication of opinion. A little later on, I want to form a club or some kirid of organisation of members who are interested in our/beautiful New Zealand forests and trees and flowers. If our seniors have any original or useful ideas on the subject, 1 would be very glad to hear them; I know many of you are keenly interested, and I want to turn that interest to best account. Let us start with the vote, at any rate, and find out which of our native flowers you think worthy of ths place of honour! There are two original sketches in our PjPge to-day, to which I want to draw 'your special attention—Annie's sketch of the wild flowers, Jind Madge's study of tui and kowhai. The latter is a beautiful piece of work; the original is a painting, and the colouring of the tui and' the kowhal flowers is particularly good. It will be included in our next exhibition of paintings. The letter box will still have to remain closed for a little while, boys and girls* as there is so much copy left over from the Spring contests, so will you please be patient and not send in any more items until I ask for them? But Gaj-den-Lovers* letters and items may be sent in any time—that section does not come under the Letter-Box rules, as it is progressive, and follows the march of the seasons. Love /to you all from Your friend,
