WELLINGTON, Thursday Tho deputy Director-General of tho Post and Telegraph Department, Mr. John Robertson, has retired after having completed 40 years' service. Mr. Robertson commenced duty in the department in Hastings, and alter serving at Napier, the Wakapuaka cable station, and Wanganui, he was transferred to the head o'ffice, Wellington, in 1905. Fo:r several years he was employed in the telegraph tlivision prior to becoming senior clerk, staff division, which branch he subsequently controlled for three years. Later Mr. Robertson was appointed second assistant-secretary, and since 1926 he has occupied the position of assistant head o:: the department. For two periods, during the absence from New Zealand of the director-general, he acted as head of the department, the last period terminating only a few weeks ago..
