CROWN LAND REVENUE
GREAT IMPROVEMENT ARREARS NOW £1,656,000 [BY TRLKGKAVH—BPKCIAL RKPORTKR] WELLINGTON, Thurnday The position of Crown tenants is definitely improving, and is being reflected in the revenue of the Lands Department, according to a statement made by the Hon. E. A. Ransom, Minister of Lands, to-day. Mr. Ransom said that Crown lands revenue over the period from April 1 to July 31 of this year revealed an increase of 46.8 per cent over the corresponding period last year. Those four months brought in £839,485 this year compared with £571,550 last year, an increase of £267,929. Discharged soldier settlement revenue hail increased by 31.6 per cent, and ordinary revenue by 69.5 per cent. The revenue for the last financial year, compared with the previous year, showed an improvement of £458,586. This had contributed to tho improved Budgetary position. As the past few years had been most difficult ones for primary producers, several Land Boards had been forced to make liberal concessions to Crown tenants. Their total arrears as at June 30 last stood at £1,650,000, Remissions amounting to £636,000 had been granted during the past two years and postponements of payment during the same period totalled £566,000.
