APPEAL DISMISSED
AUSTRALIAN TEAM INVITED The appeal of the Newton Club against a recent decision of the Auckland Rugby League in approving of transfers to several prominent players to the Mount Albert Club was dismissed at la-st evening's meeting of tho New Zealand Rugby League Council. Considerable correspondence was read on the appeal. The chairman, Mr. E. Stallworthy, said the matter for consideration was the evidence submitted by the Auckland League, and he was of the opinion that the meeting called to deal with the transfers was in order In answer to a question. Mr. Stnllworthy said no objection could be raised by the Newton Club which, in evidence, suhmitted that a certain committeeman was not a member of the club. A cablegram was received from the Eastern Suburbs Club, Sydney, seeking an invitation to visit Auckland this season and requesting probable dates for a series of matches. The secretary. Mr. W. O. Carlaw, stated a negative reply had been 6cnt, as arrangements were already in progress for tho visit of another club. It was decided to invite the Western Suburbs Club, which two weeks ago won the Sydney minor championship, to visit Auckland. The question of replacement of injured players in the North-South Island fixture was raised by Mr. A. Kyle, Taranaki. who pressed for replacements until half-time. Mr. W. ,T. Davidson. Canterbury, said it was a direct contravention of the laws of the game to replace players, and the English rules should be enforced. Notice of motion was given to allow replacements in the match. It was decided to accede to the request of the Auckland League to play the final of the Phelan Shield senior match as a curtain-raiser to the North-South Island fixturo on September 1.
