MISHAP TO MOTOR-TRUCK
CAPSIZE IN RUBBISH TIP DRIVER'S FORTUNATE ESCAPE A remarkable escape from serious injury was experienced by Mr. W. Walsh, of Ellerslie, at 2 p.m. yesterday, when, the motor-truck he was driving fell into a rubbish tip in the gully at the foot of Newton Road. Although the truck came to rest with its wheels in the air*. Mr. Walsh scrambled out from underneath unhurt. Mr. Walsh was in the act of reversing the truck to unload rubbish when the edge of the tip gave way under the rear wheels. The vehicle fell a distance of 20ft. and came to rest against several young willow trees. As it was turning over, the driver had the presence of mind to move away from the steering wheel, against which he might have been crushed.
The cab was wrecked, bat the truck was otherwise apparently undamaged, and after another lorry had pulled it back to the road, it was able to proceed under its own power.
