MATCH ON SATURDAY NIGHT FELICE TO MEET WALKER Two new wrestlers from overseas will make their appearance in New Zealand this week. These are Carl Stenning, a South African who has been competing in Australia, and an Italian, Tony Felice, from America. x Felice is reputed as being one of the best Italian wrestlers to.appear in the "United States for some years. He has been imported by the Dominion Association to augment the team to meet Sonnenberg and Koloff. Weighing about 15 stone, no is said to be a very fast exponent. His first appearance in Auckland will be against George Walker at the Town Hall next Saturday night. The match in Auckland on Monday evening last between Koloff and Detton must surely have been one of the finest exhibitions of solid wrestling seen in Auckland for a long time. There was no suggestion of .showmanship and Detton is to be complimented on his strenuous work against a heavier and stronger opjxment. The association has some excellent matches in view for the remainder of the season. The visit of Sonnenberg, especially, should give the sport an impetus at a stage of the season when interest usually begins to wane. ■ It is understood that Walter Browning will be returning again to New Zealand shortly, arrangements having been made for him to be matched against the overseas, wrestlers at present in the Dominion.
The former heavy-weight wrestling champion of the world, Gus Sonnenberg, passed through Auckland by the Monterey last Friday on his way to Australia, where, he will take part in several bouts before he returns to New Zealand to bo seen in action here. In conversation on board the Monterey lie was asked what had been the attitude of the strikers when lie had passed through San Francisco to catch the liner. Sonnenberg merely shrugged his huge shoulders and remarked in the American idiom: "They didn't trouble me none." Looking at him one could well believe it. Sonnenberg hold the championship from 1929 to 1931, but has shown no great anxiety to regain it. "1 have been barn-storming up and down America, making a few dollars," he said. "They count more than titles in the long run." The ex-champion's provisional plans include bouts at Melbourne during the centenary celebrations, but he expects to tour the Dominion before then.
