RECENT FLOOD DAMAGE REPORT TO THE COUNCIL fur TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] THAMES, Tuesday 1 lie Thames County Council at its meeting to-day, in levying the rates for the current year, decided to offer a rebate of_s per cent for prompt payment. Further metalling of the Kauaeranga Road was authorised. A number of letters 'were received from residents of Fapu asking for relief from future flooding of the Tapu Stream, which in June last invaded several houses on its banks. A similar complaint was received from a resident at Waioino, where flood conditions prevailed at the same time. The works supervisor was asked to submit a report on hoth matters. The Labour Department advised that 20 men had been despatched to the Kirikiri camp for the purpose of forming the Kirikiri Valley Road, which will enable settlers to bring their produce to the main road. . The agreement between the Thames and. H aiiraki Plains Counties concerning the supply of \v:<ter to the eastern Hauraki Plains from the Apakura Stream, was ratified -and signed. The supervisor's report made lengthy mention of the results of heavy flooding over the whole of the county during the last month. In the Puru Creek over 4000 cubic yards of boulders had been brought down, completely blocking the flow of water in the wide portion of the stream above the bridge. Any subsequent flood would seriously divert the course of the stream. The supervisor had accompanied the assis-tant-engineer of the Public Works Department on a visit of inspection, when remedial measures had been decided upon. Extensive slips came down during the same period between Tapu and Waikawau, and much labour had to bo used to open the road for traffic.
