ATLANTIC FLIGHT
AIRMEN LEAVE CANADA NON-STOP RECORD SOUGHT (Received August 9, 5.5 p.m.) VANCOUVER, August 8 A message from Wasage Beach, Lake Ontario, states that Captains James Ayling and Leonard Reid left there in tlie aeroplane the Trail of the Cariboo to-day at 5.12 a.m. eastern standard time on an attempted non-stop flight to Bagdad. . Mr. J. A. Mollison and his wife last year made an unsuccessful attempt to take-off from the same place. /A message from Halifax, Nova Scotia, states that an aeroplane believed to be the Trail of the Cariboo was sighted in the/Strait of Belle Isle, Northern Newfoundland, at 3.25 p.m. to-day according to radio advices from the Government steamer Aranmore. A fog was repoitec in the locality. The object of the airmen is to beat the 5600 miles non-stop record set up by the Frenchmen Codos and Rossi. The weather conditions over eastern Canada and the north Atlantic were reported to l>e favourable when they left. Captain Reid is a member of tho London Aero Club and Captain Ayling formerly was an officer in the Koval Air Force.
