ARREST AFTER CHASE
YOUNG WOMAN IN COURT .V [by telegraph—press association! DUNEDIN, Thursday On hearing that detectives were inquiring for her at the front door a domestic, Ruby Hooke, aged 28, hurriedly left by the back door, entered a stranger's house and helped herself to an overcoat to cover her bright dress and 6d from a money-box for her tram fare, and then led the detectives a chase to South Dunedin, where she was arrested.
This morning she admitted in the Police Court charges of stealing in September last year blankets from the Y.W.C.A.
The police stated that accused appeared in the Christchurch Court on a theft charge and assumed a false name, because she was on probation. Accused was remanded for a report by a Salvation Army officer.
