RELIEF OF MORTGAGORS
PERIOD OF LEGISLATION ANY EXTENSION OPPOSED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Further representations against any extension of the mortgagors' and tenants' relief legislation are to bo made to the Government by the Associated Chambers of CommerceAt an executive meeting to-day a letter was read from the Minister of Justice, Hon. J. G. Cobbe, in reply to a communication by tho associated chambers, in which the association asked that the legislation bo not extended beyond the expiry date provided (1935). The Minister stated that tho Government was of opinion that the time was not yet ripe for repeal of tho legislation "in question. He had recently obtained reports from the chairmen of the various adjustment commissions in regard to tho working of tho Act, and these disclosed unanimity of opinion that tho mortgagors' relief legislation had. been most beneficial and necessary and was still necessary from tho point of view of tho country as a whole. Tho Minister said that, personally, ho was more than ever convinced that tho legislation was absolutely essential
