THEFT FROM DOMAIN

BATTENS ROUND TREES REMOVAL AT OTAHUHU Over 150 battens erected as tree guards in Mount Richmond Domain, at Otahuhu, were discovered missing by the caretaker in the course of his inspection yesterday. It was also found that a length oi kauri tree had been removed. The Domain Board carried out an extensive tree-planting scheme in the domain a few years ago and guards of timber and netting were erected to protoct the tender growth from grazing stock. It was found yesterday that the battens had been removed over a wide area of the 40 acres of the domain. While the financial loss is not extensive, the Domain Board members deplore the act as being contemptible, particularly at a time when efforts were being made in the country to revive interest in Arbor Day.
