MOTOR GOODS SERVICES
AUCKLAND TO WAIKATO APPLICATIONS FOR LICENCES ' i The applications of the Felton Waikato Transport Company and McClvmont's Transport, Limited (Mr. Knight), for renewals of Roods service licences between Auckland and Waikato districts and Auckland and Hamilton, respectively, were heard before No. 2 Licensing Authority .yesterday. Several witnesses were presented in support of the applications. Mr. G. T. Wilson, district traffic manager at Auckland, who opposed the applications on behalf of the Railway Department, claimed that motor services were taking only tho higher-rated traffic, leaving the railways to deal with the lower-rated goods,. which could not be handled by the motor services. Ono of the reasons for the setting up of the licensing authorities was to protect the railways. The applications also were opposed by .Mr. \V. E. Nicholson ou behalf of the Waikato, Waipa and Raglan County Councils. Decisions were deferred. The authority will sit at Waiuku today and at Pukekoho to-morrow. Further applications will be heard at Auckland on Monday.
