THE WEEKLY NEWS

TO-DAY'S FINE ISSUE MANY NEWS FEATURES ATTRACTIVE ILLUSTRATIONS All the outstanding happenings of the ucek are illustrated both in the largo pictorial section and on the news pages or the issue of tho Weekly News which is on sale to-day. A series of exceptionally fine snow pictures taken by a special Weekly News photographer during a strenuous motor journey from the Mackenzie Country in South Canterbury, to Quecnstown, on Lako Wakatipu, in Central Otago, provide an arresting frontispiece. The centre double-page has been devoted to some further striking pictures taken in and around Queenstown.

Snapshots on track and lawn at tho Wellington Racing Club's Winter Meeting at Trentham provide another interesting feature. A full page of greattopical interest shows comprehensive views of San Francisco, tho centre of the general strike on the Pacific Coast, of tho United States. Incidents in recent clashes between the police and strikers on the San Francisco waterfront are also illustrated. Somp of the outstanding incidents of the recent contest in New York for tho world's heavyweight boxing championship, when Max Baer defeated Primo Camera on a technical knock-out, are illustrated on another page.

Tho interests of women readers are again well catered for. In addition to weddings and social events of importance, considerable space has been devoted to illustrations of the Wellington Plunket Society's arts ball, Miss Jean Batten's arrival in Dunedin, the ladies' hunters' trial at the point-to-point meet of the Brackenfield Hunt Club, and personalities of the week.

Of exceptional interest is an exclusive interview with Mr. W. J. Makin, traveller and author, on the characteristics of Prince Hcnrv, Duke of Gloucester, who is to visit New Zealand at the end of the year. Mr. Makin's point of view is intimate and privileged, for he accompanied Prince Henry on the latter's mission to Abyssinia for the coronation of Pas Tafari as Emperor of Ethiopia. Mr. Makin speaks of tho Duke as a man, a soldier, and a sportsman, tells of his likes and dislikes, his hobbies and enthusiasms, and illustrates his points by first-hand stories. An attractive innovation in the women's pages is tho inauguration of a full page featuring in illustrations and letterpress the latest fashions from London and Paris for the coming spring. An article designed to help the amateur dressmaker is contributed by a London correspondent. An article of unusual interest in tho well-furnished sporting section is from the pen of Mr. Ewen D. Alison, jun., who tells the story of winning the Grand National Steeplechase at Riccarton with his own horse. "Archer" writes on his observations at Trentham in view of coming meetings, while "Abaydos" reviews horses eligible for the New Zealand Trotting Cup. Rugby talent in Taranaki is canvassed by a New Plymouth correspondent.
