MOTOR MECHANICS' PAY
DISCUSSED IN COUNCIL [JSY THLKGHAPH —PBESS ASSOCIATION] CimiSTCHURCH, Thursday Tho Dominion motor mechanics' dispute was discussed at a sitting of tho Conciliation Council. Tho employers agreed to pay motor mechanics Is lid hit hour., assemblers and vulcanisers Is 9d, and garago attendants and improvers Is 7d.
The employees accepted tho rate for mechanics, but insisted that assemblers and vulcanisers be 'paid Is 9£d and garage attendants and improvers Is Bd. ,
After a long discussion it was agreed that don bio rates bo paid for Sundays, Christmas Day and Good Friday, and time and a-hnlf for other holidays. Tho employees asked 2s Cd a shift extra for mglitwwortk t but tho employers did not agree to more than 2d an hour extra. Tho council adjourned sino die to enablo the proposals to bo further discussed by tho parties.
