A TRAGIC MISTAKE
WRONG BODY SENT HOME DUNEDIN HOSPITAL CASE [by TKLEGJtAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENTj DUNEDIN, Thursday An inexplicable and unfortunate mistake, which unhappily is not without precedent in that a similar case occurred in Dunedin last year, was made today when relatives of a man who had died in the Dunedin Hospital received from the undertakers a body which was that of a total stranger. When the error was discovered steps were immediately taken to rectify it, but the shock to the relatives was a severe ono and added unnecessarily to their distress.
Tho medical superintendent of the Dunedin Hospital, Dr. James Thomson, when asked if ho could give any explanation of the occurrence, was at a loss to account for the failure of the officials responsible to remove the right body from the morgue as nothing in the matter of identification was Icrt to chance. He added that a full investigation of the circumstances would bo made.
