NURSES' MEMORIAL FUND

CONCERT AT HOSPITAL In order to raise money for the NewZealand Nurses' Memorial Fund, a concert organised b.v the. nurses at the Auckland Hospital was held in ward 11. last evening, and was attended by members of the staff, the patients, and outside friends. The programme, which had been arranged entirely by the nurses, included humorous sketches, songs, recitations, orchestral numbers and dances, and was thoroughly enjoyed by those present. Prior to the concert, a brief address 011 the aims and objects of the Nurses' Memorial Fund was given bv Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board. Founded in 1917 as a memorial to nurses who died in the Great War, the funds of the memorial arc used to assist nurses who are unable through sickness to support themselves. During last year 26 nurses were in receipt of annuities. The programme opened a selection by the nurses' orchestra. Following was an extract from the "Pirates of Penzance." given by the second-year nurses, the solos being sung by Miss K. Williams. A musical monologue entitled "Earthen Ware," was given by Miss Warbrick. a sketch written by one of the fourth-yesy nurses entitled "The History of Nursing," and a Maori poi dance/ by the first-year nurses. Other items included a musical sketch, "The Wedding of the Painted Doll," given with a minuet by the third-year nurses, a play "The Hospital Sketch," by the sisters of the hospital, and a comedy sketch by the medical students. The concluding items were songs by Miss L. Welsh and Dr. Cole.
