LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

An informal gathering of the League of Mothers was held at the Y.W.C.A. this week, when branch secretaries and treasurers were the guests of the provincial secretary and treasurer, Mrs. F. W. Why to and Mrs. F. R. Allen respectively. After morning tea Mrs. Whyt-e outlined the duties of secretaries and treasurers, and gave much good advice to branch officials generally. A brisk discussion then ensued and many ideas on tho running of a branch were exchanged. One point on which all seemed to agree was that the organising of each branch should be in the hands of as many people as possible, in order to spread flic interest. Tho matter of unlinancial members was discussed at some length, and it was generally agreed that though such members were very welcome at all meetings tho rule in the constitution restraining them from voting should be enforced. At the close Mi's. Harvey Turner expressed the feelings of all present when she thanked Mrs. Wh.vte and Mrs. Allen for a most enjoyable morning. Waikare.—Mrs. W. B. Lloyd presided at a recent meeting, when Mrs. Harold King, of Auckland, delighted members with an afternoon of Maori legend and song. Mrs. ■ McKinney played her accompaniments. The thought for the month was given by Mrs. Clyde Ballantync. Tho tea hostesses were Mrs. R. Pulham, Mrs. 0. G. Robertson, Mrs J. C. Stewart, Mrs. .1. Woodfin, Mrs. Powell and Mrs. Brown. Second Remuera Branch.—At a recent meeting of the branch Madame Milne gave an address on the psychology of the child, Mrs. Ford presided. Kpsom.—Mrs. W. R. Tuck presided at the last meeting of tho branch. The thought for the month was given by Mrs. Hardlcy. An address 011 the sanctity of marriage was given by ''Uncle Scrim." Mrs. A. llattray sang and the lea hostesses were Mesdames R. S. Newcoinbe, 11. Newcomb, Driver, Jordan, Glover-Clark, P. Bryan and Bennett. Mt. Itosltill.—"The Garden and the Home" was the subject of a paper read by Mrs. V. Hunter to members of the branch. She pointed out: that children were similar to plants in that each one had to be studied and treated according to its special needs. Miss Kelvina Turner recited. Mt. Albert. —A description of a visit to a factory was the subject of an address given by Mrs. Basham. Mrs. lo Petit sang and Mrs. Boyle read correspondence from tho Whakatano branch. Mrs. Pearce gave tho thought for the month.
