THE LEAGUE CODE

SUSPENSION OF PLAYERS APPEAL BY MARIST CLUB MATCH WITH HAWKE'S BAY The recent suspension of eight members of the Marist senior team was again discussed at last evening's meeting of the Auckland llugby League, when' the Marist Club gave notice of an appeal to the New Zealand Council against a ruling in respect to the transfer of the players concerned. The Marist Club pointed out that these players were suspended for refusing to play, and had no right of appeal to the Auckland League under rule 28, which dealt with transfers of senior players. The New Zealand Council, therefore, will be asked to decide whether the players arc entitled to consideration as regarding transfers.

A deputation from the players suspended waited on the committee and informed the chairman, Mr. G. Grey Campbell, that applications for transfers had been refused four prominent players. D. Herring, one of the players, asked that a special meeting of the New Zealand Council be urgently called to discuss the points raised. "We are anxious," said S. Campbell, another player, "that the matter b© cleared up before Saturday" next." In answer to a question from the chairman, one of the deputation explained that no written application for transfers had been, lodged with the Marist Club. After further discussing the matter Mr. Grey Campbell said the Auckland League would definitely take no action in connection with the transfer question" until tho New Zealand Council had decided the club's appeal. On behalf of the Otahuhu Club, Mr. J. Ciarke raised a protest against the action of tho Junior Control Board in arranging a third round in the second grade cham pionship. It was pointed out that this decision was not arrived at nritil the first, round was completed. Mr. J. Wilkio, chairman of the Junior Control Board, explained that the reason was to give extra competition for junior teams, and, after a short discussion, it was decided to inform the Junior Board that its action was not in order, and to suggest that tho proposed third round should be played as a special round, not with any bearing on the championship competition. It was resolved to record appreciation to tho Tuakau Club for its splendid performance in 1 beating Mangere on Saturday last. Mr. Campbell said for new recruits to the code, Tuakau had a promising future. Mr. J. Wilkie, manager,' said tho . conduct of the visitors while in Auckland was excellent. • .

It was agreed to ask the Auckland selectors to nominate players for 1 selection in tho proposed North Island team to play the South Island

The chairman took the opportunity of ex*lendint: n, welconje to R. Hardgrave, who recently returned from England. Mr. Campbell said negotiations were in progress to retain Hardgrave's services in an advisory capacity as a player. The New Zealand Council notified that Hardgravo could play for Newton on Saturday next. The request of the Hawke's Bay League for a match at Napier against an Auckland team on August 11 was agreed to, provided suitable terms for a change day bo sought. Appreciative reference was also made to tho report that Mr. Davis had completed arrangements for a dinner to both the teams and at which all tho winter sports bodies would be represented. A complaint was received from tho Y.M.C.A. Club that tho dressing rooms at Victoria Park were unablo to be locked.
