THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE business at firmer levels Manv gains and few losses were recorded i» a steady volume of investment business on the Auckland fcbtK-k Exchange yesterday. Although the gains, in Illo ' st cases, represent only a recovery of seme of the ground lost during * the , recent setback, there is a steadily improving tone throughout the market. . Buyers became increasingly active for ' Government loans yesterday and support strengthened appreciably for all 4 per cent stocks on a large turnover. Pealings in 1946's and ISM'.Vs registered an 'improvement, of ,2s Gd and 1 Don's were lifted a similar amount to £lO7 without requirements being fully satisfied. At the close offers were 2s Gd to us firmer than closing offers of tho previous day. Quiet conditions persisted in banks, Xew Zealand* alone showing activity. These shares were taken at a rise of oJ at 48s 9d. A sale Commercials, preference, at £9 13s, represented an advance of Is Gd. There was renewed life in insurance, with an advance of 3d in Naw Zealamls in two transactions at 60s and a cain of 6d-in South British on sale at 79s 9d. p.tlier issues were accorded strong support. No dealings were recorded in other classified shares, but buying support ,was firmly maintained. In miscellaneous industrials British Tobaccos, after being taken 4d dearer at 36s 93, were strongly held at 37s 9d, a rise in quotations of Is since the previous day. Two parcels of Farmers' Fertilisers had sale 3d higher at 20s '6d and Farmers' Tradings were done a penny better at 5s sd. In dealing at 17s fid DunlopFerdriaus showed a loss of od on their sale level some weeks ago.
