A pasß across the goalmouth from Wellbourne was nicely (licked back at an acute angle into the net by Floyd. Carlill initiated a counter-attack, but Smith again sent the ball down tho field, Kerley being called on to save. Floyd sent the ball into the net, but a penalty was given for offside. A few moments later, however,. Floyd again saw_ his chance and drove the ball hard past Kerley. Navy now took a turn at attacking, Kidston and Carlill taking the ball into Auckland's quarters. "Watts finishing up with a forceful shot, but Kerley saved, the ball striking the post and glancing outside. A period of up-and-down play followed until, after a series of passing rushes. Navy .forced Auckland to concede a corner, from which Atchdale, by a clever push-stroke, scored. Strenuous defence by Navy was seen in the next few minutes, Kerley making two good saves in quick succession from close play.. Kidston and Carlill shifted play to the other end, Wattam making a great kick-save of a shot, from the latter. Play drifted back to midfield and the spell ended with the score:— Auckland, 2; Navy, 1. ' After a few minutes and up-and-down play Armstrong and Edwards raced down the right into Auckland's circle, but their centre was not turned to account. Armstrong was back again in a moment and this time his pass was brillia'ntly turned info the net by Archdale, equalising the score. The game now sparkled up, and some excellent work by both sides was seen as Auckland bombarded the Navy goal in a series of melees. Kerley sent back several shots in quick succession, but eventually) C. Watts sent a stinging shot into the net. Navy retaliated, and this time it was Wattnm's turn to make several good saves. A period of hard, even play followed, tho backs of both teams doing fine work. At last, after «■ combined rush, E. Watts beat Kerley with a, fast, rising shot. A moment later Auckland wns back in Navy's circle. E. Watts penetrated the defence, Kerley ran out and saved, but foil, and Torbet netted from the Jn hard defence in front of the Navy goal Sellick received severe injuries above the oyes from the ball and had to be carried off the field.
