BRITISH LEGION AFFAIRS PRINCE MAY ATTEND LATER (Received May 22, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, May 21 Tt is senii-oflicially explained that Prince George's letter to the British Legion, declining the invitation to the conference because of internal troubles in the Legion, was sent 10 days ago and it was presumed that the various authorities had been informed of the Prince's decision several days ago. The delay had caused considerable misunderstanding, at which the Prince had been distressed.

The president of the British Legion, Sir Frederick Maurice, informed the conference that he had been in telephonic communication with the Prince of Wales, who was delighted to learn of the vote of confidence passed in the executive. He communicated with Prince George at Sandringham, and the letter was endeavouring to attend the conference later. This, however, would entail a journey across England, and might not be possible. The delegates cheered the news wildly and sang "God Bless the Prince of Wales." The Air Ministry's weather report later excluded the possibility of Prince George flying from Sandringham to Weston-super-Mare, but he may attend on Tuesday, when Sir Frederick Maurice still holies to welcome him. Sir Frederick adds: "There need be no misgivings about the Royal Family's deep interest in the Legion's work."
