WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
Reports of Women's Institutes are as follows:
Karapiro.—Mrs, Marplrs reported on the annual council meeting held recently. A visitor from Kotorua, Mrs. Kohertson, was most interesting in her talk 011 the Country Women's Association of Australia, which is on similar lines to the institutes in New Zealand. Mangaokewa.—Mrs. Cathie was interesting in her demonstration of raffia work. The competition was a ping pong tournament, won by Miss J. Whitehouse. The roll-call was "Practical Beauty Hints." Ohaupo.-—Mrs. Sanson spoke on the annual council meeting. Great interest was taken in the demonstration of cake decorating h.v Mrs. Bland. The competition, "thrift articles," Drought large entries and owing to the high standard of work and the difficulty of judging, it was decided to award each competitor one point, instead of the usual prize. The roll-call, "programme for 0110 month," brought Rood suggestions. llaglan.—Mrs. Cowley demonstrated wool posies and competitions were a howl of autumn flowers, won by Mrs. <T. M. Thompson and guessing the weight of the committee, won by Mrs. Grimlinton. Pleasing solos were rendered liv Mrs. Hardy. Springdale.—A social evening to celebrate the second birthday tvas held, friends and visitors from surrounding institutes being present. The programme included musical items, songs, comedies, and community singing.
