"SMITH FAMILY'S" V/ORK REPLY TO CRITICISM [by telegraph—press association] "WELLINGTON, Tuesday The "Smith Family" authorities, replying to . criticism of work at their boot repair depot, state that the amount of work done is not such as to cause hardship to the trade. It has been admitted by experts qualified to judge, they state, that the depot is a model of efficiency. The public should understand that the'"Smith Family"_ opened a boot depot on their own initiative, and carried it on at a cost of from £6O to £7O a month for nearly 21 months, until the Unemployment Board came to its assistance" to help carry j?n the work. The annual report of the "Smith Family" records the fact that during tho past year, an elderly worman, Mrs, Hope Smithy has madfe over 1000 garments for distribution among the poor of Wellington.
