/MEETINGS IN AUCKLAND COMMENCEMENT TO-DAY / WIDE RANGE OF SUBJECTS The 34th Auckland provincial conference of the New Zealand Farmers' / Union will commence in Auckland this morning and will continue until Friday. It is anticipated that about 100 .delegates, representing the 12 subprovinces, will attend tho sittings, which will be held at Hotel Auckland. The conference will be opened by the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, and, following the roll call, an address will be delivered by tho president, Mr. H. O. Mellsop. Consideration will then bo commenced of over 140 remits which have been presented by the executive afed sub-provinces. An extensive range cf subjects will be covered. Tho 24 remits dealing with tho economic crisis and methods of rplief include several urging that aspects of tho Douglas Social Credit system should be adopted, and one that legislation should be passed to enable the system to be tried by some city or district, as suggested by tho Hon. W. Downie Stewart.

/Other proposals are that securities should bo written down to correspond with the reduction in goods and services, that drastic legislation bo enacted to ensure that no farmer be timed off his farm, that a subsidy scheme based on tho cost of production Ik. inaugurated to relieve the position of tho dairy farmer, that a committee be appointed to consider a unified plan for the rehabilitation of the dairy industry, and that tho legislation relating to mortgages be revised. There are several remits protesting against the introduction of quotas. .Other remits relating to dairying include proposals that an economic survey bo arranged to establish tho actual costs of butter-fat production, that attention bo given to the possibilities of the East as a consumer of dairy produce, and that a protest be entered against political control of tho Dairy Beard in the interests of proprietary and commercial undertakings. Derating o! Farm Lands Several remits urge the reduction or removal of protective customs taxes on British goods and the immediate revision of the Dominion tariff on the lines of tho Ottawa agreement. It is advocated that farm lands bo derated and that public meetings be held before county council elections, at which candidates should declare their attitude to this question. '

Numerous recommendations relate to stock remedies and the prevention of disease. The compulsory grading of all'pork for export is urged, while another remit suggests that additional uctors be appointed to apply the information obtained fhrough the Manawatu and Waikato Pig Recording Clubs. Other groups of remits refer to the control of ragwort and other noxious weeds, to union affairs, to educational, political. find unemployment questions, and to problems consented with, the tenure of land, while the miscellaneous section deals with subjects as widely varied as daylight saving, Alsatian dogs and radio licences.
