TAKANINI TRACK NEWS

GOOD FIVE BY GAY SHEILA SPEEDMINT WORKS FREELY Heavy isiiowers made conditions unpleasant at Takanini yesterday, when many of ine horses engaged at Te Rapa did fast work ori the inside grass track, the going being heavy. ~, , ~ . Greek Gold (Fearn) was half-a-length in front of Expectancy (Jones).at the end of six furlongs in I.IS. It was a satisfactory /rallop on the part of both horses, who should show up at Te Rapa. Royal Gallant (Jones) went well in the first part of a six furlong 3 gallop, but he was stopping a little at the end in 1.20 '2-5. Royal Gallant looks really .well but was inclined to hang in at the end of his work. Wirirama (Clifford) shaped nicely while running three furlongs in 38s. This filly has progressed well since winning in the maiden class at Whangarei. Electric Passage, a two-year-old filly by Acre-Gre?n Bonnet, did three-quarter pacework. She is rather small but is sturdily built, j. Gay . She'la (Doig). jumped away at the five furlong 3 and ioined at the three furlongs by Alpinus (Walters), ran home in 1.4. Gay Sheila did her work pleasingly. Alpinus took 40s to run three furlongs, being under a pull throughout. He appears to be in,/ very good order and was anxious to increase the pace. Notamint (Fearn)-had nothing in renerve after running half-a-mile in 51 4-ss. but it •was a satisfactory effort for a maiden and ehe appears to relish soft going. After going steadily over a circuit Speedmint went faster from the five furlongs, to run home in 1.3, the last half-mile in 52 4-ss. She was- going comfortably throughout. and is now much more free in her nction than she was at Whangarei. Model Girl (Walters) accompanied her over the j last half-mile, but was well beaten at the end. , , ~ Bally Money (Walters) strode over half-n-mile in pleasing stylo in 52 l-ss. The Diacquenod gelding has never looked better. Rereatu (Craig) was not doing his best to run half-a-mile in 575. He looks bright ajid well to carry out his winter programme. The Gay Shield-Lady Marie colt worked nicely when allowed to run a furlong along the bafck. This brother to Gay Sheila and Gay Blonde has made fine progress during recent weeks. _ ~ ~ W. Jarvis has the hurdler Full Measure In work again but the two-year-old Life Guard is having a short let-up. Full Measure looks big in condition and apparently free from the soreness that sent him off the scene earlier in the season. NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP Gastronomy, who met with a mishap when showing promise last spring, has again been taken in/hand by W. H. ,l?ixttexson at Tarfianini. He looks extremely well after his enforced rest. The Cornwall Handicap candidate Havering is back again nt Takanini. this time under the care of W. Jarvis. He was let off with/an easy task yesterday, but is in good healthy condition. An- interesting entry for the. Craigmore Steeplechase at Tinaru to-morrow week is ] that of Lord Ranald, who failed to stand j up to a preparation last winter, and . who J whs favourite for the 1932 Grand National j Steeplechase, won by Billy Boy. The six-year-old mare Spoon, by Ten Tray from V/nriovc by Martian from Stcpdanccr. h«s definitely been retired from racing. Her relationship to the Stepdancer family, as w eli as her own performances, should ensure for her a successful career as a brood mare, The day after his arrival in Melbourne from Zeulnnd lust week Royal Visitor Cave an excellent exhibition of jumping over the. big schooling hurdles nt Flemington. He was ridden bv P. M. Brady, who. i without even giving the gelding a preliminary niorht nf t|.-> hurdles, popped him over eight and he did not put a foot wrong. The successful horseman M. MeCarten gave his' mother u thrill on a recent evening by ringing her on the wireless telephone troin Sydney t;> her home in Hawera.
