SEVERAL PEOPLE INJURED FIVE SENT TO HOSPITAL A DANGEROUS SPOT ONE-WAY BRIDGE TRAFFIC [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT^ WHANG ARE I, Sunday A serious collision between two motorcars occurred last night on the one. way bridge at the foot of Maunu Hillnear Whangarei, on the Whangarei. Maungatapere main highway. It re. suited in five of the occupants of the cars being admitted to the Whangarei Hospital. One of the cars, a tourer, was driven by Mr. Darrell Laxon, of Nukutawhiti, and contained six passengers. The other, also a tourer, was driven by Mr. Clarence Timperley, of Maunga. tapere, and contained four members of his family. The occupants of Mr. Laxon's car who wero injured were: —Mrs. Myrtle Laxon, aged 25 years, who suffered a lacerated wound on the scalp and slight injury to the right eye; Mrs. Grace Downs, of Nukutawhiti, aged 25 years, a fractured skull, two severe wounds' on the scalp and one on the face; Mr. John Rika, of Pakotai, aged 18 years, a slight scalp wound.

The other three occupants, Mr. Walter Preston and two children, Theresa Laxon and James Downs, received minor bruises and cuts, but did not need hospital attention. Mr. Timperley, aged 52 years, the driver of the other c;ir, suffered a double fracture of the jaw and lacerations to his lip, while his son, Clarenco James Timperley, aged 14 years, received a severe wound on the chin which extended to the mouth. Both were admitted to hospital.' The other occupants, Ruth, May and Horace Timperley, suffered only minor injuries.

All the five patients in hospital are suffering considerably from shock and were operated on this morning. They were reported this evening to be progressing satisfactorily. Both cars were damaged extensively as a result of the impact. The scene of the accident is where a severe motor collision occurred a few weeks ago, and motorists are of opinion that having a ene-way bridge oa a main highway is a definite menace, particularly at the foot of a hill.

REMARKABLE ESCAPE CAR AND TRUCK CAPSIZE [from our own correspondent] HUNTLY, Sunday A remarkable escape from serious injury was experienced by the occupants of a sedan motor-car and a light truck, which came into collision last evening on the Great South Road, about three miles south of Huntly. The car was driven by Mr. William Burnie, farmer, of Huntly West, and the truck by Mr. William C. Green, a fish dealer, of Hamilton. 4 The car was travelling, from Ngaruawahia to Huntly and-the truck in the opposite direction. The- right front wheel of both .vehicles became interlocked and the truck was thrown on its side and completely wrecked. Tho car also capsized, but was not so extensively damaged^ The driver of the truck was accompanied by two lady passengers, who escaped unhurt, while ■ accompanying Mr. Burnie, was his brother, Mr. David Burnie, and Mr. William Mclntyre, of Glen Massey, who were pmned under the car. They were immediately released and were found to be suffering from minor bruises and cuts. Mr. William Burnie was unhurt. After receiving medical attention, the injured men returned to their homes.
