NEW GOLF LINKS
CHRISTCHURCH PROPOSAL SUITABLE AREA AT SPREYDON / ' A suggestion that efforts be mado to have jnunicipal golf links laid in that part of Spreydon, Christchurch, consisting of several blocks of land bounded by Lyttelton, Frankleigh and Rose Streets, was made by the secretary, Mr. E. Langford, at a meeting of the Spreydon Burgesses' Association. Mr. Langford said he had made several inquiries concerning the proposition and had met with encouraging results. About 40 acres would be required for a nine-hole course, with nine fairways two chains wide and a total length of 3000 yards. "The undulating nature of the country appeared to be excellent for golfing purposes. Mr. M. J. Barnett, superintendent of parks and reserves, had considered the idea an excellent one, said Mr. Langford, and recommended that the Burgesses' Association should' place the matter before the City Council. The chairman of the association, Mr. J. Skelton,- said a golf course would undoubtedly prove a great asset to the Spreydon district. It was reported that the municipal course established at New Brighton was very successful, and there was every prospect of success for one in Spreydon. There was no course anywhere in the vicinity of the proposed area, and the suggestion put forward by Mr. Langford was worthy of careful consideration. Several' questions concernine the details of the scheme were asked by members and it was agreed that the matter be thoroughly gone into at the next meetinc of the association with a view of placing it before the notico of tlio City Council.
