SAFETY IN EARTHQUAKE
CHRISTCHURCH FIRE PLANT ALTERATIONS TO BUILDING /. A plan illustrating the scheme to ensure that the engine-house at the Central Fire Brigade station should not collapse in the event of a serious earthquake, was received from Mr. J. S. Guthrie, at a meeting of the Christchurch Fire Board. The board adopted the scheme and decided to have alterations made to the building. The scheme is to strengthen the ceiling of the room where the fire engines are ( housed, so that even if the walls of the building collapse, the engines will be undamaged.
