YACHTING

INTER-CLUB CONTEST The Heme Bay Sailing Club brought iti season to a close on Saturday afternoon when an inter-club race was held off Ponsonby. The clubs represented were the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Akaransi Yacht Club, Richmond Cruising Club, Tnmaki Yncht Club, Ponsonby Cruising Club and the Heme Bay Sailing Club. The winner was Norena, sailed by Captain W. Percy, representing the Heme Bay Club. The wind wa? light and variable at the start, but later freshened into a Btcady south-west breeze. Tho starters we:re Silver Fern, Swallow, Norena., Blue None, Siala and Kahu. Silver Fern was too keen to start and lost a few lengths in returning. All carried spinnakers on the run to the rpark oil Curran Street, which was rounded in the following order:—Norena, Blue Nose and Silver Fern. On the close haul to tho Pile beacon off Chelsea Norena maintained her lead, but Blue Noso was replaced by Silver Fern. Rounding the Pile, beacon the order was Norena, Silver Fern, Blue Nose, Kahu, Swallow, Siola. The same positions were kept for the remainder of the course and, although Silver Fern gained on Norena, the latter crossed the lino 45s ahead of her riva}. The race Btarted at 3 p.m. The finishing times wero:~Norena, 3m, Captain W. Percy, Heme Bay Club, 4h 11m ss; Silver Fern, scr, W. A. Wilkinson, Tamaki Club, 4h 12m; Blue Nose, 3m, R. Lidgard, Akarana Club, 4h 19m 355; Kahu, 3m, C. Philpott, Richmond Cruising Club, 4h 21m 15s; Swallow, Bm, J. Faires, Ponsonby Cruising Club, 4h 23m 15s; Siola, Bin, R. Mays. Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, 4h 2Gm 40s. The result on corrected times was:— Norena. 1; Silver Fern, 2. Mr. I. Dennes was starter. Master B. Faire timekeeper, and Master D, O'Halloran recorder.

ORAKEI MODEL CLL'B

The Orakei Basin Model Yacht Club held a series of races for model yachts in the Orakei Basin on Saturday afternoon. Results were:—

General Handicap, McKay Trophy.—For this prize all boats were balloted for, the trophy going to the skipper and not to Die owner of tho boat.
