KING AND QUEEN

YESTERDAY'S ANNIVERSARY ACCESSION TO THE THRONE (Received May 6, 6.35 p.m.) LONDON, May 5 I heir Majesties King George and Queen Mary to-morrow will celebrate the 24th anniversary of their accession to the Throne. They will spend the day quietly at Windsor Castle and will attend divine servico in tho morning.

PRESENTATION BY PRINCE MANCHESTER TERRITORIALS (Received May 6, 6.35 p.m.) LONDON, May 5 Prince Henry (the Duke of Gloucester) flew from London to Manchester to-day and presented new colours to the 10th Battalion, Manchester Territorials. He recalled its hard-fought engagements in Egypt, on Gallipoli and in France.

INTEREST IN DOMINION CHAT WITH SIR J. PARR LONDON, May 4 Prince Henry (the Duke of Gloucester) had a long audience with the High Commissioner for New Zealand, Sir James Parr, at Buckingham Palace. His Royal Highness expressed great interest in New Zealand, and said he was keenly anticipating his visit. He will be the chief guest at the New Zealand Society's luncheon on June 1. AUSTRALIAN VISIT EAGER EXPECTATIONS JOURNEY ON CRUISER LONDON. April 30 Prince Henry (the Duke of Gloucester) is looking forward most eagerly to his visit to Australia as he feels that his experiences there are bound to appeal to him, his comptroller, Major Stanyforth, stated to-day. Major Stanyforth, who will accompany the Prince, said the King first raised the matter on April 26, and the Prince did not hesitate to accept, as he had long wanted officially to visit a great Dominion. He had passed through Canada informally on his return from Japan. This had increased his already keen interest in the Empire. His Royal Highness is also pleased with the prospect of a trip in a cruiser, since he has spent most of his life in the Army, and is anxious to learn something of naval affairs. The Prince's heart, however, is in the Army, and at present he commands a squadron of the 16th-sth Lancers at. Tidworth, and takes his duties very seriously. He will remain with his regiment almost until the day the Sussex sails. When it was first suggested that he would go to Australia he felt it would be a pity as he would have to miss the manoeuvres, but he recognised that his first obligation was to the Empire. Major Stanyforth emphasised that the Prince's favourite sport is shooting, and it was suggested that a kangaroo hunt might be organised in his honour. Major Stanyforth replied that nothing would please the Prince more, and also he would not miss the Melbourne Cup for worlds.

His Royal Highness will find it difficult to leave his dogs behind for, in addition to his favourite Aberdeens, he has four greyhound? a bull mastiff and a Labrador. He will probably be interested in visiting Australian cattle shows as he is a former president of the Royal Agricultural Society and is at present president of the Royal Veterinary Society. The Prince dances well, although not so much as Prince George, and plays golf in spasms.
