DAYLIGHT ROBBERY
GIRL CHASES THIEF EXCITEMENT ON SYDNEY TRAM Evidence of an attack on a young woman, and the theft of a. large sum of money, was given at the Sydney Police Court recently, when a young man was charged with having assaulted Klsa Olivia Gregcrsen, and robbed her of £294 15s, the property of her employers. A constable said ho was on duty on a train in George Street at about 9.40 a.m. The tram stopped at Barrack Street, and witness heard a woman crying out, "Stop that man, he's stolen my money." Witness saw a man run aiid jump into a compartment ahead of tho one he was in, and attempt to leave on the other side. Witness intercepted him, and a piece of loaded hose foil from his clothing. Witness stated that Miss Gregersen said that defendant hit her with the hose and stole her money.
Another constable said that,, when he asked accused why lie ran away, he said: "When the girl ran out she was screaming blue murder, so 1. bolted, as I did not want to bo mixed up in any trouble." Miss Gregersen said she received £294 15s from tho various departments of her employers' business and placed it in a wallet. She went into the Commercial Banking Company's building, and wont down some stops to tho safe deposit. Tho wallet was on her right arm. At tho top of the steps, she saw the defendant, who hit her on the head with something, grabbed the wallet, and put it under his coat. After a struggle tho man broke away, and lan into George Street. Witness screamed, and chased him until he jumped on a tram. . , Tho accused was committed xor. .trials
