SMALL SHETLAND PONY
IMPORTED TO WELLINGTON LESS THAN THREE FEET HIGH .An unusual sight in the streets of Wellington last week was a Shetland pony, eight hands high. This pony is of pure Shetland Island blood, anil has been imported by the Barber Estate of Himitangi as an addition to its Shetland pony stud. It is many years since a purebred Shetland stallion has been imported into New Zealand, and it was not till Mr. Barber had, through the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, made exhaustive inquiries throughout New Zealand and Australia, that this importation was decided upon. The pony is at present 18 months old, and stands just 33in. high. His dam was that very well known Shetland mare Nina of Middlebank, and his sire Hay Duke of Pennirtells, both registered in the Shetland Island Purebred Society Stud Book.
