VAGRANCY CHARGES
GAOL FOR THREE ACCUSED OBSERVATIONS BY POLICE Observations made over a period of weeks by Constables Christiansen and Needham resulted in the appearance before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, of a number of on vagrancy counts. Louis Harold Howe, labourer, aged 53, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of being a rogue and vagabond, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. Apart from evidence by Constables Christiansen and Needham, Detective Brady and Constable Mooro stated that accused evidently had no regular em-, ployment. A sentence of six months' imprisonment was also imposed on Annie Slattcrv, aged CG, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of being an incorrigible rogue in that she consorted with undesirables. Senior-Sergeant Flanagan called evidence that accused had been observed for some time to be a companion of persons known to have convictions.
Mary Lees, aged 57, was sentenced to a month's imprisonment on a charge of being a rogue and vagabond. A domestic, Annie Stokes, aged 51 (Mr. Aekins), who admitted a charge of being an incorrigible rogue, was remanded for a week for sentence. The police stated that accused had not been before the Court since April last year, and counsel said nccused, who was married, was prepared to go to the King Country and to take out a prohibition order.
