HEROISM IN LIFEBOAT

WIDOW RECEIVES MEDAL PRESENTATION BY PRINCE (Received April 22. 5.5 p.m.) Britisli Wireless RUGBY, April 21 'The Prince ol! Wales to-day distributed menials that were awarded to members of lifeboat crews for outstanding exhibitions of courage and endurance in rescue work. The recipients of the gold medal, which is nhe Victoria Cross of the service, included the widow of Mr. Robert Patton, coxswain of the Runswick lifeboat, Yorkshire. Mr. Ps.tton died from injuries received in a violent storm while rescuing a crippled sailor who was unable to escape with the remainder of the crew from the sinking steamer Dispenser, to the deck-rail of which he was clinging. The lifuboat was swept against the ship, crushing Mr. Patton, but he supported t!ie crippled sailor until the rescue was effected, when he collapsed. The Runswick lifeboat has been renamed the Robert Patton.
