BOY SHOT IN BACK
ACCIDENT IN CANOE CONDITION REPORTED SERIOUS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON,. -Sunday A boy, George Welch, aged 13 years, the soji of Mr. Alfred Welch, of Wbatawhata, was accidentally shot in the back near Whatawhata to-day. The boy, with his brother, Charles Welch, and another boy, Carpenter, was shooting rabbits from a canoe in the Waipa River, four miles down-stream from Whatawhata. Charles Welch was passing the pea-rifle from one side of tho canoe to the other, when it was discharged, and the bullet entered his brother's back. Welch was admitted to the Waikato Hospital in a serious condition. At a late hour to-night it was. reported that his condition was unchanged.
