'AKAKANA CLUB'S EVENTS

RESAIL FOR V AND S CLASS

VICTORY FOR MARLENE

The Akarana Yacht Club brought its season to a close oil Saturday afternoon when a resail of the V and & class regatta race was held over the club s usual h'arbour course. A fresh northeasterly breeze prevailed throughout the race, which was won by the new 16-footer Marl one. The competitors were Waitoa. Daphne, Avro, Waitea, Marlene nnd Toss Up. On the fall of the last flag Waitoa crossed tho lino a length ahead: of Toss Up and Marlene, which got away together. Then followed Daphne and Waitea, Avro being 5m late. It was 4. beat to the Sandspit beacon and before the boats had gone very far Marlene took charge, and onco in the lead was never headed. On the completion of the first round Marlene led Waitoa by 4m 50s. Daphnb /was lm 8s astern of Waitoa and 32s after Daphne followed Avro. Waitea and Toss Up were each over 4m astern of Avro. In the final round Daphne sailed into * second position and Avro into third. The race started at 2.30 p.m. The finishing times were:—Marlene (-lm), 3h 47m 31s; Daphne (8m). 3h 5Gm 30s; Avro (6m), 3h 57m 245; Waitoa (12m), 3h 59m 3s; Waitea (14m), 4h 3m 365; Tos3 Up (20m), 4h 8m lis.

ROYAL YACHT SQUADRON The annual "all in" race between the owners of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron boats Waitangi. Thelma, Ivotuku and Ilex was held to Rocky Bay, Wailieke, on Saturday afternoon. A fresh northeasterly wind prevailed, which gave the yachts p, beat to their destination. The handicaps were:—Thelma, scr; Waitangi, 4m; Ilex, Bm-; Kotuku, 15m. From'a good Btart Thelma was first away and was closely followed by Ilex, with the other two boats handy. Thelma continued her lead throughout and was first home. Ilex finished second, Kotuku third and Waitangi fourth. Tho face resulted in a win for Thelma by lm 46s from Ilex. HERNE BAY SAILING CLUB The Heme Bay Sailing Club held two races for its midget class on Saturday afternoon. The first race was between a team of nine, senior members representing the Heme Bay Club, and nine seniors representing the Ponsonby Cruising Club. MANTJKAU YACHT CLUB The Manukau Yacht and Motor-Boat Club held its final' races of the season on Saturday afternoon when the yachts competed over two rounds of the No. 2 course, startingr and finishing off the clubhouse. Ihe motor-boats used the same course a s that for tho yachts and the 12ft. 6in. class competed over their usual short course. The first prize for -the yacht race was a' silver cup,'which was won outright by Sea Toiler. POINT CHEVALIER CLUB The Point Chovalier Sailing Club held a general handicap at _ the week-end over its usual course, starting and finishing off the clubhouse. The first prize was a trophy donated by the president, Mr. M. J. Coyle, and was won by - Lyneve. Tho race was sailed in a moderate northerly breeze and from'a good start Valet was'first away, closely followed by Ngaro, Kittiwake, Awatea, Martha S. and Gannet. Martha S. soon took the lead and was followed by Sybila. the others being strung out astern. At the Walker reef buoy the order of the leading boats in the- first round was:—Martha S., Valet, Belle, Kittiwake and Ngaro. The race started at 2.30 p.m. The finish ing times were:—Martha S. The first race was a resail of the My Girl trophy for boats' 6teered by ladies. The handicaps were:—Elvira S., Tarua, 8m 50s; Aunioe, 13m 50s; Viveen, 4m 20s; Lady Thelma, 4m 403; Ahureka, 15m 30s; Maro, 17m 50s. The boats were started on their handicaps. Maro was disqualified for crossing too soon, but continued in the race. The finishing times were:—Aumoc, 29m 2Ss; Viveen, 30m 16s; Elvira, 30m 235; Ahureka, 30m 455; Tarua, 31m 8s; Maro, 31m 17s; Lady Thelma, 33m 41s.

Tho result was:—Aumoe, 1: Viveen, _ 2; Elvira, 3. Aumoe and Vivien collided during the race and the matter will be inquired into by the sailing committee. Tho handicaps in the second race were:— Elvira S., Tarua. 11m 403; Aumoe, l'2m 20s; Viveen, 13m 40s; Ahureka, 15m 20s: Lady Thelma, 16m 20s; Maro, 18m 40s. Ahureka and Aumoe did not start, the rcßt of the fleet being sent away according to their handicaps. Several of tho boats in this event improved their speeds and the result may be affected. ** WAKATERE BOATING CLUB The Wakatcre Boating Club held two races off Narrow Neck beach yesterday. The first was a further trial for the Speedwell Cup. Five boats started from Bcratch at 11.12 a.m., the- result being as follows: "Wakatcre (J. ilunt), 1; Wanderer (L. Amocleo), 2: Waitaki (S. Hughes), 3; Whakawhero (S. Richardson), 4. _ The second race was for tho Black Stick Shield, .which was sailed in a northerly breeze over a windward and leeward course. Thirteen boats faced the starter and 12 completed the course.

The race started at 2.30 p.m. The finishing times were:—Wiritoa (scr), 3h 16m 555; Wahine (4m). 3h 17m 425; Waiata (2}m), 3h 17m 525: Waimarie (2im), 3h 19m 355; Wanderer (2Jm), 3h 20m ss; "Whakawhero (6m), 3h 23m 50s; "Wakatere (scr). 3h 23m 455; Waiola (4m), 3h 23m 555; Windjammer (2Jm). 3h 25m 30s; Waitaki (fim), 3h 26m 30s; Wairangi (3m), 3h 27m.
