FINAL PRACTICES HELD The final practices prior to the opening of the Auckland Rugby League's season next Saturday were held on Saturday, when Rood musters were general. In spite of (he wet conditions several enthusiasts watched the special practice game at Carlaw Park between Marist and Ponsonby in which the latter was successful by 13 paints to 0. The winners showed good combination and plenty of dash for early in the season, but when Marist settled down later the play was more even. City ar.d Newton indulged in useful practice on ths No. 2 ground, while Devonport and Richmond had good attendances at their Tcspective grounds. Mr. P. Rogers was referee for ihe special game
MATCHES AT TAUPIRI [from our own correspondent] TAUPIRI. Sunday League football was commenced here yesterday. In the senior contest Taupiri defeated Ngaruawahia by 11. points to 3. The score at half-time was 8- O. \V. Tittleton and Potaon scoring trijs for the homo team, and the first-named also kicking a goal. Early in the second spell Poison scored another try. while just before time Hill scored for Ngaruawahia. Mr. W. Payre was referee. In tlio junior match Taupiri beat Kia Ora by 5 points to 3.
