SCHOOL JUBILEE
WHANGAREI GATHERING [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] v. WHANGAREI, Saturday The Kara School, near Whangarei, celebrated its jubilee on Thursday evening, when a large gathering of friends and parents was addressed by Mr. F. Watts, the second pupil to enter the school and the first European born in that district.
The school,, was originally called the Kaitara School and was opened with a roll number of 12. It was originally a part-time school and became a fulltime one in 1892. The first pupil was Mr. H. Dent and the second Mr. Watts, and these were the only original ptipils present at Thursday night's function.
The first teacher was Mr. L. P. Adams and the first full-time teacher was Mr. Walters. At one stago the school roll reached 60, hut to-day there are only 18 pupils attending.
