PUMPING OF MINE
PLANT AT HIKURANGI [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Saturday The co-operative party working tho Hikurangi Coal Company's mine at Hikurangi and tho Waro mine, until recently owned by Wilsons New Zealand Portland Cement Company, has decided to instal additional pumping plant at the Hikurangi colliery.'
This action has been taken to cope with tho increased influx of water which takes place in tho winter, and the new pump is expected to be installed within the next few weeks.
Tho new plant will be able to pump tho mine of approximately 90 per cent of the water extracted by the present pumping plant, with tho advantage of using only about two-thirds of the power. The installation of this additional plant will ensure the safety of the mines in the wettest of weatheiv The present plant will also be used.
