MORRINSVJLL.E ASSOCIATION / ASSISTANCE FOR NEEDY [from our own correspondent] MORKINSVILLE. Saturday There was an attendance of about 30 members f.t the annual meeting of the Morrinsville District Returned Soldiers' Association. The president, Mr. W. McPherson, reviewed the activities of the association during the past year, and explained the manner in which assistance had lieen given to ex-s6rvicemen and their families who were in need. At the present tiime, he said, the association was raising a fund to enable the son of a Morrinsville ex-serviceman to be sent to the Flock House training farm. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr. W. Reason; vice-presi-dents, Dr. G. Craig, Messrs. E. C. N. Robinson, A. Topham and C. B. Easther; executive, Messrs. S. Blomfield, J. J. Bailey, C. B. Davis, H. B. Drower, E. Hitchman, T. Hayward, A. R. Jenkin, W.. McPherson, H. A. Munro and I. Newman; secretary, Mr. R. E. Scott; treasurer, Mr. R. B. Morton; auditor, Mr. C. A. Peat.
THAMES ACTIVITIES ELECTION OF OFFICERS [by telegraph—own correspondent] THAMES, Saturday The annual meeting of the Thames Returned Soldiers' Association was held last evening, Major McCarroll presiding; ovtir a good attendance. The balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance of £7B, was adopted. The following officers were elected: — Patron, Mr. A. M. Samuel, M.P.; president, Major T. McCarroll; treaturer, Mr. J. A. Brings; auditor, Mr. A. Bryan; committee, Messrs. C. Buntting, P. Williams, G. Fisher, H. Charlton, G. Hawkins, C. Dean, F. Robinson, F. Gibson, A. Brokenshiro and W. S parke. The Peppy Day collection, it was reported, had resulted in the whole of the 1000 poppies purchased being sold. The association passed a resolution that it viewed with alarm any effort to change the date of Anzac Day and would resist any effort to do so. It was decided to place Imperial exsoldiers, while financial members of the association, on the same footing regarding canteen fund payments as ordinary members.
