SWIMMING

FARMERS' TRADING COMPANY ANNUAL CARNIVAL HELD-. Keen finishes resulted at the annual swimming carnival hold by the staff of the Farmers' Trading Company, Limited, in the Tepid Baths last evening. The championship cup, awarded to the department obtaining the most points, Avas retained by Office with a score of 48 points. Queen .Street branch was second with 37 joints, and Hardware third with 21. The attendance of 500 spectators was excellent.

Among the competitors were Mies Judith Web3ter, the lady broastntroke ch unpion of New Zealand, and Misa Jaan .Thomson, a New Zealand Univcjsity champion. Their swimming, particularly Miss .Webster's, was watched with very keen interest. Both girls had u close tussle in the 33 L-3yds ladies' brouststroka handicap. Miss Thomson, who iB a former nrtional champion at the stroke, winning by ;& foot from Miss Webster, who had conceded her two seconds. .Easily the speediest male competitor was G. Wallace, a member of the Birkenhead and Northcote Swimming Club.

An exhibition of diving wae givim by the Auckland lady champion, Misa Irene Lon.j, and two teams from the Porsonby Swimming Club played an exhibition game of vater polo.
