DARGAVILLE RACES

SURPRISE BY DIVERSION WIN AFTER MODERATE THIRD r ARCH RULER SCORES TWICE An instance of the luck of racing was provided at the-conclusion of the Dargaville Racing Club's meeting on Saturday, when Diversion was successful in the chief race, the President's Hack Handicap. Diversion had finished only a moderate third in the previous race, tho Omana Hack Handicap, and it iva j not intended to run her in the President's Handicap. However, in view of the smallness of the field, her connections were persuaded to give her another start, and Diversion brought off a surprise by winning nicely and paying the best dividend of tho meeting.

The conditions for racing were again good and, although there was a shower toward the end of the afternoon, the weather remained tine. Four favourites were successful and all the winners were well supported, with'the exception of Diversion, who was the outsider of a field of five when she won. Arch Ruler followed up his success on the first day with two decisive victories, and he was responsible for tho best gallop of the meeting when he carried 9.7 and won the Omana Hack Handicap in 1.14 3-5.

Tho totalisator handled £3231 10s, compared with £4015 on the second day last year, a decrease of £783 10s. The total investments for the meeting amounted to £5478, against £6917 last year, a decrease of £1430. Results: — KIRIKOPUNI HAOK HANDICAP, Of £6O; 7 fur. 1-ARCH RULER C.
