COMMENTS ON RUNNING CHANG'S FAULTY JUMPING ALL SPIRIT SCORES EASILY [by TELECRArH—OWN COIIRESrOXDENT] HAWERA, Saturday Only four contested tho Okaiawa Hurdles, Riotous being mado favourite. Chang was taken to the front after the first hurdle, and stayed there until tho last fence, where a faulty jump cost him many lengths, and enabled Riotous to win nicely from Invictus. Chang was a moderate third. Constant Sun and Chang both fenced slowly.

Stadium was a pronounced favourite over All Spirit for the Electric Handicap. Silver Wings made the early running from All Spirit and Waiwlietu. On sufierance Silver Wings led All Spirit until a furlong from home, when tho latter ran to the front to win very from Silver Wings, with Stadium an indifferent third and Rollovant fourth. All Spirit is a fair sort and outclassed the opposition. Having her first raco. Silver Wings, a nicely-turned daughter of Tea Tray and Fleeting, showed promise. Stadium ran poorly. In spite of his nine stone. Pheon was first out from the barrier in tho Moremere Hack Handicap, and, after being closely followed by Grand Score and Ingenuity over tho first half-mile, drew right away to win easing up from Cereal, with Ingenuity a close third. Adept was a poor fourth. Better handled than on Thursday, Pheon outclassed her opponents. Cereal again ran an honest race, and may do better next week. La Crown boltod before the Btart and ran badly. Investors went solidly for Lady Spy in tho Tonks Stakes. Alloy, Carfex and Fiji all began smartly, but at tho end of two furlongs Korokio had taken tho lead. Fiji and Carfex' kept her closo company until reaching the straight, where Alloy unwound a fine run and won very easily by fouif lengths from Carfex. Lady Spy 'was half a. head away third, and Senegal was a poor fourth, Alloy ran a fair raco on Thursday, but his form to-day was improved. Ladv Spy did not havo the best of runs nnd should havo beaten Carfex for second. Fiji went well for a mile and ehould do better at New Plymouth. Artful Dodger, ridden by R, Reed, began very smartly in tho Trial Hack Handicap, and led by three lengths early from Colenso, Lebanon and Ilatuma. With half tho journey covered, Colenso was rushed part Artful Dodger, to lead him into the straight. However, once in line for the judge. Artful Dodger asserted his superiority to win well from Colenso, who just held off ITatuma and Sandlark. Tho winner showed speed at Stratford and won nicely on this occasion. He was belter seasoned than Colenso, who will win ill his turn. Sandlark was unlucky. Arvadn and Snnguine King wero first to break the line in the Normanby Handicap, Arvada soon opening up a useful lead from Fairway and Davistock. Racing to tho straight, Arvada led by three lengths, and ran home an easy winner from Sanguine King, with Davistock a poor third, just in front of. Fairway. While Arvada won easily her task was nlado light by Sanguine King and Fairway running wide at tho homo turn. King Win was last throughout. Only four started in the Waimale Handicap. Navnho began a little better than British Columbia and Souchong. At the fourfurlongs post, British Columbia led Souchong by a length, with Navnho well placed. Half a furlong from tho post. Reed called on Souchong, nnd in a great race to tho post he beat British Columbia by a head. Navalio was five lengths away third. R. Reed rode a particularly good lace on Souchong. The best, field of the day contested the Inaha Hack Handicap, and in good pool several were well supported. Lalla Quex. Headmistress, Oriel and St. Clara comprised the leading division for most of the way. Nearing the tiirti Royal Dash and Blue*Bov ran through to lend into the straight from Lalla Quex nnd Oriel. Over the final stages Oriel nnd Bonnie Vale joined issue, nnd in a good finish Oriel won narrowly from Bonnie Vale, with Royal Dash third, MISHAPS TO JOCKEYS R. C. MILES IN HOSPITAL The jockoy R. C. Miles received concussion of the brain and abrasions when Ruby Meteor fell on the flat with him in tho Tirau Hack Hurdles at Matamata on Saturday. After receiving medical attention, Miles was removed to hospital for observation. Another jockey, S. J. Cammick, sustained a leg injury when Gay Rose reared over with him when being ridden in the birdcage prior to the horses going out for tho Railway Hack Handicap at Matamata.
