H. CALDER'S VICTORIES I / CALIENTE, HAMPTON PARK A SUCCESSFUL MEETING The unusual performance of winning a double in successive races was achieved at tho Matamata Racing Club's annual meeting on Saturday by the Avondale trainer H. Calder and his apprentice jockey O. Heed. The winning horses were Hampton Park in tho Wabnroa Handicap and Caliento in tho Matamata Hack Cup. The meeting was very successful, tho attendance, estimated at about 6000, representing an increase of £2O in gatetakings. In spite of a one-dividend field in the last race totalisator investments also showed an increase, the machine handling £11,868, against £II,OOO last year. A year ago' tho club was the first in the Auckland Province to use the win and place system, which it again adhered to this year. TROPHIES PRESENTED CEREMONY AT MATAMATA After tho running of tho Matamata Hack Cup Handicap on Saturday, a case of cut.lery donated by Mr. E. Montgomery was Pvcsented to the whining owner, Mr,., J. L. Webb, of Auckland, at a ceremony in tne ■birdcage. Mr. J. W. Anderson, president of the club, congratulated Mr. Webb on tho success of Caliente, and recalled" the fact that, his pacer Kohara won the New Zenlaild Trotting Cup in 1927. He then called upon Mrs. J. W. Tims, wife of a vice-president ff the club, to present the trophy. In replying, Mr. Webb said that while he wi-s proud to havo won the Trotting Cup,- it gave him just as much pleasure to win the Matamata Hack Cup. . , O.
