MORE CARGO HANDLED IMPROVEMENT IN FINANCES [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHAKATANE, Saturday A substantial increase in both inward and outward cargoes handled at Whhkatdne during 1933 was a feature of the annual report presented by tho secretary at a meeting of tho Wliakatane Harbour Board yesterday. Inward cargo showed an increase of 521 tons and outward cargo an increase of 2078 tons compared with the previous year's figures. Some discussion took place regarding tho striking of the rate for tho ensuing year members stating that ratepayers wero looking forward to a reduction in tho rate. It was decided to strike the same rato as last year.

The improvement in tho board's finances was very favourably commented upon. Four years ago thero was a, bank overdraft of £5700, but this had now been practically wiped off.
